Areca catechu (10mAD) is an extremely attractive Palm with huge drooping fronds. This is a tall growing palm with its slender trunk up to between 10 to 20m tall. Fragrant light coloured flowers and attractive orange fruits. Suited to pot culture. The betel nut wrapped in the palm leaves are widely used by the local people for their medicinal and narcotic values. Native to the Philippines but widespread throughout East Asia, this one is for the subtropics and tropics. Prefers shade in a protected position.
