Giant Staghorn Fern
Platycerium superbum (2m*AbcD)
Platycerium superbum is the iconic Giant Staghorn Fern from eastern Australia. It’s one of the largest and most dramatic species in the genus, famous for forming huge sculptural colonies on trees or large boards. Tolerates temperatures down to around 0 °C when acclimatised, thriving in bright filtered light and high humidity Being an epiphyte they dont want too much water.
. Beyond its sculptural beauty, it offers a calming statement piece that elevates any space to botanical prestige. Unique feature: its sterile base fronds collect organic matter, creating a self-fertilising canopy—nature’s built-in recycling system.
We collect these in plantations that are adjacent to rainforest with a large staghorn population. The spore lands on the plantation trees and germinates there & hey presto after 6 or 7 years we have a staghorn commencing life.
These are sent loose ready to tie onto a board or direct onto a tree. Tie on with grafting tape or similar just slip under one frond and over the other. Do not overwater.
These plants are 15cm diameter.
Sent loose and in the rough and will grow new shields quickly. Priced at $14.90 (400 Parries)
