ZAMIA FERN
Bowenia spectabilis (1m**AD) Not a fern but leaves are sofy and beautiful. This is an ancient Cycad. The Zamia Fern is a rare & handsome drooping native Cycad from North Eastern QLD. Found in rainforest and wet schlerophyll forest. This one is a slowish grower with attractive mature branching up to 1m long. Both male and female cones are small (10-12cm). This plant does not have a trunk and new leaves are born from an underground cortex that after 30 years or so can get nearly as big as a soccer ball. It forms interesting multiple heads. Beautiful soft shiny leaves. Best in filtered sun and will grow in warm temperate areas and can take a light frost only. In other areas you will need a warm spot. These are single stemmed 30cm plants in a long native tube.
