Used extensively in the Cut Flower Trade

COSTUS HIERO
Costus pictus Var. Hieroglyphica (1.5mFAbcD) A great variety of Costus pictus used extensively in the cut flower trade, for it’s banded, striped and spotted hieroglyphic canes.
This lush tropical perennial features spiralling stems with broad leaves, topped by dramatic flower bracts (often red, yellow or orange) that bloom for much of the year.
Likely to reach around 1.5 m tall under ideal conditions, it prefers warm, humid, well‑drained soil, and part shade or filtered sun.
Add this plant and transform dull corners into a tropical statement — bold form, lush leaves, and exotic flowers bring a sense of escape and luxury to your garden. It’s low‑maintenance yet highly decorative, giving you instant tropical vibes without fuss. Secret perk: many Costus varieties bloom for most of the year and some have edible flowers — a conversation starter and a rare perk for ornamental plants.
Sent in a 75mm pot. Priced at $12.90 (300 Parries)
PS The straight species Costus pictus is known as the Insulin Plant.
