Reported to be the only cold hardy Alpinia. Drought tolerant as well. You can divide the clumping rhizome to grow several more Alpinia japonica. Prefers well drained soil. Keep moist in summer if it gets a lot of sun. Can be grown in a container. Native to Japan. Part shade.
